Research on the rocks
Tuesday January 20, 2026 1745-1930
Join us in the main hall for light refreshments and a drink while viewing poster presentation by your ED colleagues at Research on the Rocks.
Abstracts represent the work of researchers, educators, and clinicians that have developed new knowledge and thinking about emergency medicine, building on previous work. Abstracts serve to present evidence that might change the way we practice, and work to improve the care outcomes and experiences of all patients that seek emergency care.
We are seeking abstracts to be shared at a poster presentation event at Stowe EM26. Preliminary data, reports on methodology and feasibility, and quality improvement projects are welcome. Award categories include: best pre-hospital abstract, best Nurse abstract, best Student abstract, best Resident abstract, and best Junior Faculty abstract. The top two abstracts will be selected to be presented as part of a special plenary session.
Abstract acceptance letters will be sent to submitters by November 30th, 2025. Poster submissions for accepted abstracts will be due January 5th, 2026. Questions regarding submissions may be addressed to Roz King at Roz.King@uvmhealth.org

Airway: True Stories from the ED
Wednesday January 21, 2026 1630-1830
We all have stories to tell.
Funny, heartbreaking, inspiring—our stories shape our experiences, reaffirm our commitment to care, challenge our perspectives, and remind us why we chose this demanding yet rewarding path. Our stories are as diverse as the patients we serve and the team members who stand beside us. They range from split-second decisions that alter lives to quiet moments of connection amidst the chaos. Each narrative offers a unique window into the world of emergency medicine, revealing the human heart beating beneath the professional exterior.
This year we are excited to host Airway: Stories from the ED, a unique storytelling event that brings these powerful tales to life. We're inviting emergency medicine physicians, physician assistants, nurses, pharmacists, paramedics, technicians, and other healthcare professionals to share their experiences from the front lines—the triumphs, the struggles, and everything in between.
In celebrating these stories, we honor the rich diversity of voices in our field. By amplifying these voices, we foster a more inclusive narrative of life in the ED—one that reflects the true breadth of experiences in our profession.
Whether you're a seasoned professional, a newcomer to the field, or someone considering a career in emergency medicine, this event is for you. Come to share, come to listen, or simply come to connect with others who understand the unique pulse of the ED.

Obstetric emergencies workshop
Thursday January 22, 2026 1230-1530
When Seconds Count: ED Training for Emergent Delivery and Resuscitation
Obstetric emergencies in the emergency department are rare but critical events that demand rapid recognition, decisive action, and effective team coordination. This hands-on workshop immerses participants in scenarios involving life-threatening conditions across four essential training stations: delivery management including precipitous and breech presentations, immediate neonatal resuscitation with vascular access techniques, maternal peri-delivery cardiac arrest, and culminating with postpartum hemorrhage management.
Through guided simulation and structured debriefing, participants will enhance their clinical decision-making, procedural skills, and communication strategies while emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration between emergency medicine and maternal-fetal medicine, especially in environments without in-house obstetrics. Physicians, nurses, and EMS personal will leave this intensive training better equipped to manage these complex cases with confidence and improve both maternal and fetal outcomes when seconds truly count.
